This week on the show, I have Derrick Boles back on the show. Derrick is one of my favorite guests because I admire his message, his attitude and his strength so much. He is a leadership consultant, an author and a keynote speaker. Derrick has had a challenging 12 months.
Less than one year ago, Derrick had 2 strokes that almost took his life. He tells us what those events were like and how he felt while going through that. There was a great deal of unknown soon after. He didn’t know if he would walk again or if he would talk again. He had a medical professional tell him that he needed to prepare himself to be on disability for the rest of his life.
I asked him how he handled that news and he told me that it motivated him. He printed up that statement and put it on his refrigerator. He then told me how he made his recovery. First and foremost, he says faith and prayer were the cornerstone of his recovery. Derrick has always had faith, but this experience galvanized his faith and made it even stronger.
I asked him how this event affected his business. This is something that no one ever thinks will happen to them. The truth is, it does happen and it happened to Derrick. We talk about a few things that business owners can do to be prepared for a life changing event like this.
Derrick is also working on a new book which is a follow up to his book “Courage to Lead” called “Courage to Follow”. When it is ok for a Leader to follow?
Derrick is also working on a new project called the Leadership Challenge where he is coaching emerging leaders.
My thanks to Derrick for coming on the show and sharing his inspiring story. Please feel free to connect with and support Derrick. Links are below.
