None of My Business S7:E3- Gurus Go Sailing

For this episode, I brought back Angel and Kevin Moran. You may remember them from a few seasons back when they were on the show talking about founding Guru Donuts. It is one of my favorite episodes!

Angel and Kevin had gotten to a point in their donut making career where it was time for a change. They knew that this wasn’t going to be a business they were going to run forever. Like much their personal story, there is some synchronicity in helping them make this decision.

I ask them what it was like leading up to the decision to sell. It isn’t something that business owners enter lightly and the process can be trying. They walk me through what the experience of selling their business was like and give a few pointers on how to get a business ready.

We discuss what it was like to find a buyer. They tell me what it was like telling their team and how they did their best to make the transition as easy as possible for the new owners. We go on to discuss what was on the horizon for them now that their daily routine was about to change drastically.

Sailing is something Kevin has always been passionate about and he knew someday, it would formally become a part of their life. The tell some very fun and exciting stories about their first foray into sailing as a married couple. They helped someone sail around Florida and through the Gulf of Mexico right after a hurricane to see how it felt.

It felt good enough (barely) to go out and try it on their own. Kevin walks me through the process of buying a sailboat on the west coast and what it was like for them to be sailing on their own.

It’s important to remember that starting a business is a great challenge. If done properly, it can come with great rewards. Angel and Kevin show us what can happen if we create something valuable in your community, grow it with love and kindness, many wonderful things can be at the other end.

My sincere thanks to these two. It has been a pleasure getting to know them and become friends with them. It was also been a joy to watch them inspire us to listen to ourselves every once in a while and follow what our soul is asking us to do.
