On today’s show I have Eric Mott who is the founder and owner of Slyce Brands. Eric has a few restaurants right now and has some really neat things lined up for his business this year.
We start the conversation with his first business. He started a lawn care company when he was 15 years old and sold it for $32,000 before he went to college! He really got a taste for what it was like to work independently and being his own boss.
After school, he used his chemistry degree and took a job out in the pharmaceutical world. It was here he learned that he didn’t want to work in a lab. Something was lacking. He wanted to be doing things which engaged him in all facets of the business.
Fast forward a few year, he found himself involved with a company that was positioned properly in 2007 as the economy was collapsing. They grew it from $60M to $400M in assets under management in 6 months!
Eric had always been intrigued by the franchise model. It was at this point opened a franchise called Interim Health Connect which provided home care to people in need. There was need for it here in the Treasure Valley and he took advantage of that. We have a great conversation about starting a brand new franchise in a market that needed it.
After that he jumped into the pizza business. He bought the licensing to Pie Hole, so we discuss the differences between franchising and licensing. He learned alot while taking this path and eventually broke off and started his own business, Slyce Brands.
Eric brings a ton of value to the show and has had a great deal of experience that he was willing to share. My sincere thanks to Eric and we wish him the best moving forward.
