This week on the show, I have Meg Carlson who is the current President and CEO of Prosperity Organic Foods Inc. We talked about what she is doing in her current role, and what she had done in her career to put herself in position to be an easy choice for this role.
Meg was the first woman VP for the HJHeinz company when she was working at Ore-Ida foods. She accomplished it at the age of 35! The story on how she got her foot in the door with that company is one I really enjoy. She essentially spent 6 months calling the department she wanted to get hired on with and eventually got the interview and the job. It is that kind of tenacity and follow through that helped her become an important part of that company for 16 years.
After her time with that company, she went into the tech world for a short period of time. It was from August 2000- July 2001. Based on that timeline, you can see why it was a short stint. The dot.com bubble burst spectacularly and she has some stories of that time and what it was like.
From there she worked as an entrepreneur/merger and acquisition advisor. It was here she helped provide advisory services for buying and selling businesses or to offer transition consulting to guide a company through a change of ownership.
She then got into a group involved with Angel investing. We discuss how investors vet a company that is worth investing in. This was a very interesting portion of our conversation. It was here she met the founder of Prosperity Organic foods. She believed in the founder and the product and helped take it from a hobby to a full grown successful business.
My thanks to Meg for coming in and sharing her story and all of her experience with me for you to hear.
