None of my Business S7:E7 Brian Fretwell

In this episode, I have author, coach, and speaker Brian Fretwell. In it’s simplest form, Brian essentially helps a team of people work more efficiently and quickly toward a common goal. He helps them communicate in a tighter fashion, understand everyone’s role on the team, and how to get everyone moving in the same direction.

This is not an easy task. Everyone on a team can be at a different point of caring and Brian has 5 stages of this and the goal is to try move everyone forward to the next stage. He goes on to talk about psychological safety and what role that plays. We had a great discussion on this topic.

Brian goes on and helps me understand how our reptilian brain is still reacting in a “fight or flight” in situations that aren’t life-threatening. He says that from our brain’s standpoint, physical danger and psychological danger is seen equally and our brain reacts in the same way. This is important to understand. How can we recognize when that his happening and what can we do about it?

Brian goes on and talks about leadership and how to get the most out of employees. He brings up an interesting statistic. An employee stays at a job on average of about 3 years. He references a study that claims, if you are at a job for more than 3 years, YOU are costing yourself money. Should this change the way we hire or supervise our employees? Brian says yes and yes.

My thanks to Brian for having a fun and insightful conversation with me. I found it very helpful and enlightening. You can find Brian and reach out and say hi at the links below.
